MACL puts its people front and centre. Every single one plays a vital part in our business’ ethos of ‘Building Value Together’.

We directly and indirectly employ around 450 people, and many of the workforce have been with the business since we started in 1987.

This incredible record of staff retention is one of the best in the industry and is testament to the fact that we treat all staff with respect, integrity, and support.

This is demonstrated in numerous ways.

We reward all our workers, across all skill sets and pay-grades, with competitive salaries and numerous incentives, including in-job training, free high-quality workwear and subsidised on-site catering.

We celebrate success across all pay grades through the Staff News section of our external magazine The Hard Hat and in our regular e-bulletin that is sent to all employees and external contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and housebuilding partners.

We also support staff through mentorship schemes, a robust Health and Safety policy and have designated mental health first aiders across the business.

For newcomers to the sector, we offer an industry-recognised apprenticeship scheme and many post-graduate opportunities.

We also provide volunteering opportunities for disadvantaged communities through the charity Groundwork and work alongside schools and colleges to promote construction skills.

Don’t just take our word for it

“I did work experience with Anderson at 15 and knew immediately that this was a career path I wanted to follow. I think this is a company that will give me opportunities. I’ve ended up working as part of an experienced team and feel like one of them.”

Greg Russell, 17, is a Groundworks Apprentice from Chelmsford, Essex.

“It’s a great company to work for, there’s a real sense of loyalty and I work with great people which is so important in a team. At Anderson, there isn’t a limit to where you can go within the company – there are lots of opportunities if you want to go for it, and you are encouraged and helped along the way.”

Louie Butters is a Site Manager who has worked for Anderson for 20 years.

“I’ve loved every minute. It’s a company that is very good to its staff and in return staff tend to show loyalty. I always think that once you become part of the Anderson team you never even think about the grass being greener elsewhere.”

Jason Frost is an A1 Groundworker that has worked for Anderson for eight years.

“Anderson is a family – in so many senses of the word. Most of the team I work with have followed me from site to site, so we have a long-standing rapport. But my own flesh and blood has also chosen to follow me into this industry too – which speaks volumes.”

Terry Lindsell is a Senior Site Manager. His daughter Karis Lindsell is also an Anderson employee and works as a Trainee Estimator.

“Since working with Andersons for over a year now, I can say my career choices have definitely opened up by the progression I am making because of the group of people I am surrounded by who all do anything to help me and encourage me towards achieving my goals.”

Alfie Ball, 17, Construction Apprentice

“I have been a Construction Apprentice for nearly a year now working with skilled people every day and along my way assisting me with my drive and career progression. The support I get from the site team is second to none.”

Harvey Wright, 17, Construction Apprentice

“For the 7 years I have been working with Andersons I have worked with very knowledgeable people boosting my career progression massively. For any issues I have had, the Management team on site and in head office have been very approachable and supportive. The company is all about loyalty and respect.”

Jack Vella, 25, General Foreman
