Great Wilsey Park is to the north-east of Haverhill, in Suffolk, in an area which St Edmundsbury Council has identified as providing an opportunity to build much-needed housing.

This development will provide new local amenities for the community, including a day nursery, two primary schools, a health centre, community centre, local shops, small-scale office spaces and a care home.

The Wilsey Park design is focused strongly on nature and the environment and will be enhanced with woodland trails, accessible parklands and ecologically diverse habitats, as well as community allotments.

Once complete, the development will offer upwards of 2,500 homes, of which Redrow Homes (Eastern) Ltd have already secured outline or planning consent for 499.

M. Anderson Construction Limited has been involved in providing groundworks for phases A1 and A8 of the scheme working in partnership with Tru Plant and Hertfordshire Traffic Management.

A 2.5km access ‘spine’ feeds through the site, connecting to a smaller roundabout at Chalkstone Way. These works are the backbone of the scheme, from which all estate roads and dwellings can be constructed.

Phase A1 constituted 15.4 acres and home to 66 units while phase A8 was 16 acres and 108 homes.

The groundworks to both comprised of traditional trench fill foundations, substructure brickwork including laying of facing brickwork and suspended insulated floors and external works to drives including block paving and tarmac finishes with slabbed footpaths and informal Breedon gravel footpaths.

Commencing in November 2020, following the wettest October on record, the conditions proved very challenging in the early weeks of the contract.

Despite these difficult circumstances on site, the team pushed on and delivered the first tranche of infrastructure within the agreed timeframe, testament to the preparation, hard work and dedication of the business when overcoming and adapting to meet clients’ expectations.

Work on phase A8 has also included construction of a large pumping station with off-line storage of foul water, a substation for distribution of power and management of newly diverted high voltage powerlines and installation of a gas governor providing gas to each of the new homes.

Site Manager for this job is Halil Mjekqi overseeing a team of 24.
