MACL nets extraordinary sum for charity on fishing adventure

M. Anderson Construction Ltd was thrilled to present a cheque for £22,728 to the Lighthouse
Construction Industry Charity this week after raising the incredible sum fishing!

The charity is unique in that it is the only charity dedicated to supporting the emotional, physical
and financial wellbeing of the construction community,

Every year MACL holds a charity fishing event at Crowsheath fisheries, Billericay, inviting
anglers for an overnight adventure – with 30 taking part in 2023.

The annual fishathon, organised by Project Manager Steve Townley and Senior Site Manager
Ron “Rocket” Sant, netted an impressive £22,728 – and more than £40,000 overall since it first
began three years ago.

The pair were joined by CEO Andrew Jay and Managing Director Steve Howe to present the sum
to Sarah Poirier, Regional Lighthouse Ambassador, who said the charity was overwhelmed by
their generosity.

Ron said the idea for the fishathon came about as a way to connect with staff and continue with
the work the company does on supporting mental health.

“We’re very proud that MACL takes mental health and wellbeing seriously, and the company
has invested a lot of money in training people in mental health first aid and establishing
resources to support those people who struggle,” he said.

“Fishing is an activity that is great for the mind so as well as raising money for the fantastic
Lighthouse Club, the fishathon brings people together and encourages conversation. It’s a
chance for people to relax, open up and spend time away from work, developing friendships
with their colleagues.”

Lighthouse Charity CEO, Sarah Bolton added her sincere thanks to the team for their fabulous
fundraising. “It’s fantastic that this wonderful fishing event continues to raise money for our
charity. It’s so important to see companies like MACL supporting the wellbeing of its people and
of those in the wider industry by shining a light on our work.”

Money was raised through the entrance fee, as well as a raffle – with prizes being donated by
Korda, Nash, Outlaw Pro and Crowsheath Fisheries and more.

MACL Managing Director, Steve Howe added: “The fishathon is a highlight in the calendar for
our organisation and we are very grateful to Steve Townley and Ron Sant for all their hard work
in making it happen. I would also like to thank everyone who donated and took part in this
fantastic fundraising event”.

“We were thrilled to be able to hand over the money raised by this brilliant event to a charity
that does so much for men and women in the construction industry.”
